“Inspiring” “Vibrant” “A really lovely exhibition with plenty of ‘buzz.’ ”
…..were some of the comments in our Visitors’ book for our very special 25th anniversary exhibition.
A window festooned with bunting plus a delightful spotted dog drew visitors into our exhibition in the NSA gallery.
Of course, the stars of the show were the 68 paintings on display which were of the usual high calibre we have come to expect from our talented members. Six artists took up the challenge of entering their imaginative paintings into the Celebration category.
My thanks to all who helped with setting up, hanging the paintings, taking them down at the end, organising the reception refreshments, and to everyone who stewarded.
Some of our visitors came as a direct result of publicity initiated by Janet Waters, particularly an article in the Breeze magazine
; as did advertising through Facebook. At least one such enthusiastic visitor joined the group and signed up for workshops.
Incessant rain for two days meant that we did not have as many visitors during the week as at previous exhibitions. However, the reception on the Saturday made up for that when we had so many visitors that we lost count after 60.
At the reception paintings were judged by Hazel Lale, an artist of international renown and previously a tutor for us. Hazel generously donated copies of her book Vibrant Watercolour to accompany our prizes.
Prizes were awarded to Lynda Child for Judge’s Choice and the Celebration/silver jubilee category whilst Rita Mitchell and Pam Earlam were awarded Highly commended.
The People’s Choice was a close-run thing this time.
1st Choice was Maureen Scott’s painting Club Solo.
2nd Choice Pamela Glover’s Fairy Flowers.
Member of the public winning £25 voucher prize was Ed from Derby.
I particularly want to thank Sandra and Pam for being part of the Exhibition Team making it an enjoyable experience and for their support this year.
